Swedish
One of the most popular and well-known techniques, Swedish massage incorporates effleurage (long sweeping strokes), petrissage (a kneading technique to improve circulation), friction (to warm up layers of muscle) and sometimes vibration (to break up adhesions in muscle tissues).
Receiving this traditional massage reintegrates the body through long, continuous strokes which promote muscle relaxation and improved circulation. One hour of Swedish massage equals several hours of restorative sleep.
This technique is typically light to medium-pressure and can be performed using oil or lotion.
Firm Swedish
Slightly more pressure than the traditional gentle Swedish Massage but not anywhere near a deep tissue/sports massage, the Firm Swedish massage is a full-body relaxation massage, with the therapist moving into the next layer of the skin to help reduce tension.
Deep Tissue
A penetrating therapy that focuses on muscle tension and chronic muscular holding patterns to restore the connective tissue (or fascia, the tissue surrounding the muscles) to its natural state. Excellent for soft tissue injuries, relieving muscular pain, and increasing your range of motion.
Techniques usually involve slow strokes and intense pressure to specific areas of the body to alleviate chronic or specific muscle tension in order to restore flexibility and functionality to the muscles and remove pain.
Deep Tissue is often very effective when used in conjunction with other therapies, such as Swedish with Deep Tissue.
Sports
By using vigorous massage techniques, this athletic massage is designed to help active individuals recuperate faster after strenuous exercise or for those with sports injuries.
Perfect for pre and post exercise or competition, this massage prepares the body for higher levels of exertion and prevents injury from tightened muscles. It improves performance and endurance, and promotes healing and muscle elasticity.
Various techniques including deep tissue and stretching may be incorporated to prevent injury and enhance recovery.
Reflexology
Reflexology is based on the principal that there are points in the feet, hand and other parts of the body that correspond to specific organs, glands and portions of the body. Stimulating these reflexes properly can help alleviate or prevent health problems, as well as rejuvenate the entire body.
Reflexology therapy is often incorporated with other massage treatments.
Foot Reflexology accounts for the majority of Reflexology treatments.
"Back on Track"
This massage is designed to focus the entire session on the TWO areas where many people hold stress and tension: the Back and Neck.
By focusing the entire time on these two areas, the therapist can achieve greater results for each client during a single session.
Senior Massage (65+)
Light pressure and gentle stretching are used in this massage to help ease pain and tension, increase blood flow to muscles and improve movement & range of motion.
Heated Stone Therapy
Hot stone massage is an increasingly popular form of treatment evolved from traditional use of stones in Native American and Japanese cultures.
Black basalt stones of specific size and shape are heated in water, then placed on the body, and also used to perform massage techniques.
The combination of warm stones with massage work creates amazing results by inducing deep relaxation, helping with detoxification, melting tension and reducing pain.
Accupressure
A technique where firm and gentle pressure is applied to key points on the body to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. These specific points correspond to Acupuncture needle points, however this therapy does not involve needles inserted into the body. Use of this ancient healing art releases muscular tension and increases circulation to aid in healing.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a traditional Asian system of palpation and rhythms used to balance the energy flowing through specific pathways of the body. Shiatsu combines finger pressure and advanced stretching techniques, and may be done on a traditional floor mat or in combination with other massage techniques on a massage table.
Shiatsu is a non-invasive physical form of massage therapy designed to stimulate the body's inherent ability to heal itself and to prevent and relieve chronic and acute conditions.
This therapy stimulates energy pathways throughout the body and promotes a sense of profound relaxation, alertness and well-being.
"The Samurai" - Thai-Shiatsu-Acupressure
A special combination of ancient Eastern styles including Thai, Shiatsu and Acupressure where gentle rhythmic pressure and palpation are combined with advanced stretching techniques. Often referred to as "lazy person’s yoga", it is intended to stimulate energy, rejuvenate the body and restore flexibility.
"Into the Deep" - Deep Heat Therapy
Penetrating deep tissue massage incorporating targeted heat therapy and special muscle relief herbal formulas. Excellent for releasing chronic back/neck muscle tension and increasing range of motion.
"Baby on Board"
Pregnancy massage addresses the physical and emotional changes that occur in the female body during pregnancy. This massage focuses on specific problem areas in order to reduce neck, back, joint and feet pain caused by postural changes, muscle weakness, tension, extra weight and imbalance.
Prenatal massage usually involves the mother resting on her side (sidelining) to prevent pressure to her abdomen, with body pillows and special bolsters utilized for cushioning and support.
Pregnancy massage can benefit both mother and developing child.
Reiki
This technique is a specialized, gentle, hands-on energy healing treatment used to activate and balance the body's power to heal. Reiki utilizes specific techniques for restoring and balancing the energy within the body. It is a holistic, natural healing system that combines the body, mind and spirit. This modality can be used as health maintenance or for the prevention of diseases.
Craniosacral Therapy
Effective for people with high stress, nervous disorders, motor-coordination impairments, ADD disorders, insomnia among others.
Within the human craniosacral system the cerebrospinal fluid moves in a tide-like manner. Craniosacral therapists use very gentle pressure, massaging the bones, membranes & fluids that support the spinal column. This technique is designed to facilitate changes in areas of restriction where this tide-like motion is limited, confined, and immobilized.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the use of plant essential oils for curative and rejuvenating effects. Dating back to ancient Egypt, India, and the Far East, this simple therapy has been used for centuries to reduce stress and tension, refresh and invigorate the body.
It can be delivered in two ways: Used in oils, the essential oil is absorbed through the skin and into the body to affect physiological change. When inhaled the aroma directly affects the limbic area of the brain that is related to emotions, and memories.
At the Knotstop we use only the highest therapeutic grade Young Living essential oils and deliver Aromatherapy through both methods to provide you with the best experience & results possible.
