Swedish
One of the most popular and well-known techniques, Swedish massage incorporates effleurage (long sweeping strokes), petrissage (a kneading technique to improve circulation), friction (to warm up layers of muscle) and sometimes vibration (to break up adhesions in muscle tissues).
Receiving this traditional massage reintegrates the body through long, continuous strokes which promote muscle relaxation and improved circulation. One hour of Swedish massage equals several hours of restorative sleep.
This technique is typically light to medium-pressure and can be performed using oil or lotion.
